The New York Rangers signed goaltender James Reimer to a one-year contract on Sunday.
Financial terms were not disclosed, although multiple outlets reported the deal was worth $850,000.
Reimer is expected to serve as the backup to Dylan Garand, who has been New York’s top goaltender since former Vezina Trophy winner Igor Shesterkin was lost for the season due to a knee injury.
Reimer, 38, has played one game for Hartford of the American Hockey League this season after appearing in 14 games for the Ottawa Senators in 2025-26.
He is 232-191-67 with 32 shutouts, a 2.88 goals-against average and a .909 save percentage in 539 career games (492 starts) with the Toronto Maple Leafs, San Jose Sharks, Florida Panthers, Carolina Hurricanes, Detroit Red Wings, Anaheim Ducks, Buffalo Sabres and Senators. He was selected by the Maple Leafs in the fourth round of the 2006 NHL Draft.
