The Golden State Warriors expect big man Kristaps Porzingis to report to the team’s facility on Tuesday after being away for two weeks.
Coach Steve Kerr told reporters Monday that the plan is for Porzingis to meet with the team’s performance staff in San Francisco while the team is in Las Vegas on Tuesday night to play the Los Angeles Lakers in an exhibition.
“Yeah, he’ll be here (Tuesday),” Kerr said. “No update beyond that.”
Porzingis, who began his NBA career in 2015, was a surprise no-show for the start of training camp late last month. General manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. said the 7-foot-2 center was dealing with a “health issue.” Porzingis has kept in touch with Rick Celebrini, the team’s director of sports medicine and performance, during his time away from the team, ESPN reported.
Golden State acquired Porzingis, 31, from the Atlanta Hawks for Buddy Hield and Jonathan Kuminga in February at the trade deadline. Porzingis played in 15 games (11 starts) for the Warriors after the trade and averaged 16.1 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 23.7 minutes per game. He shot 31.1% from 3-point range, well below his 36.4% career percentage. He also started both of Golden State’s play-in tournament games.
Kerr did not commit Monday to including Porzingis in the starting five for opening night against the Lakers in LA on Oct. 21.
“All that will be determined once we get him back here and have discussions and figure out where he is with all that stuff,” Kerr said.
In 10 NBA seasons, Porzingis has averaging 19.5 points, 7.6 rebounds and 1.8 blocks in 30.3 minutes while hitting 1,004 3-pointers in 533 games. He has played for the New York Knicks (2015-19), Dallas Mavericks (2019-22), Washington Wizards (2022-23), Boston Celtics (2023-25), Hawks (2025-26) and Warriors.
